Welcome to  the VMCC Edinburgh Section

Picture
FromOn the 28th April 1946, Titch Allen called together a group of enthusiasts at the Lounge Cafe, Hog's Back, Guildford, Surrey, with the object of forming a Motor Cycle Club for owners of machines from what he saw as the Golden Age of motorcycles. From these beginings the Vintage Motor Cycle Club was formed.

Over the years the VMCC has grown and now has nearly 15,000 members and caters for all motorcycles over 25 years old, with Sections of the club across the country, each running a range of meetings and events.

The Edinburgh 'Auld Reekie' Section was founded in 1993, meeting at first at the Callyr Inn, Straiton. At the first AGM on 24th October 1994 year Brian Forbes was elected as Chairman, Ralph White Secretary, Bruce Miller Treasurer, Gordon Johnston Section Scribe and Stewart McLaren Events Co-ordinator.

When the Callyr Inn closed down (nothing to do with us, honest!) to allow for road re-alignment  we were looking for a new home and settled at the Riccarton Arms in Currie which had a large off road car / bike park at the rear of the building. We were very happy at the “Riccy” for a number of years until refurbishment in 2012 resulted in the loss of our back room.  The search was on again for a new home and George Plumb, current Secretary suggested the current home, the Ratho Park Hotel.

So if you are interested in old motorcycles and want to be part of a friendly group of enthusiasts with a full calendar of talks, runs and other events , come along to one of our monthly meetings, or contact the Secretary using the Contact page of the site and you will receive a warm welcome.

From July 2016 , meetings will be at the Newliston Arms, 78-82 Main Street Kirkliston EH29 9AB on the third Monday of the month . Check the Programme for events or contact the Secretary, George Plumb on 0131 333 3336 or e-mail – growanleaj@btinternet.com for further details.
