Demob Run 2017
Powmill in Perthshire was the start once more for our Demob run, the Milk Bar there has recently changed ownership but thankfully they were still very happy to host us. How fortunate we were with the weather to, as the days either side of Sunday 14th May were truly miserable but we were bathed in glorious sunshine the whole time which showed off the scenery at its spectacular best. There was a lot going on for old motorcycles, both locally and elsewhere on the day and our numbers were a little lower than past years but we still had a great selection of bikes from a Vincent to a Scott and Ariel to Norton with a Nimbus thrown in too as well as other popular makes.
The route took us northwards to Dunning then east to Bridge of Earn and Newburgh then along the wee coast road south of the Forth of Tay and through some quaint villages in the Kingdom of Fife before a very tasty lunch at Leuchars. A big thank you to our hosts Wilma and Jim, a keen motorcyclist, for their excellent hospitality at Ye Olde Hotel and we were on our way once more. This time we headed south then west through places with fine Scottish names such as Strathkinness, Pitscottie, Freuchie, Falkland, Leslie and Cleish before our return to Powmill.
Sadly, there were a couple of machine failures at the start but the feedback from those who completed the run was all positive and if you like riding your bike then really, it just doesn’t get any better than this.
My thanks to all who came,
George Plumb.
